On Thursday, October 20, 2016 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Brampton to officially open the new Amazon Fulfillment Centre in Brampton. “This is a really big day for Amazon,” the Prime Minister said. “Today marks day one in the launch of this new high tech facility.”
Located at 8050 Heritage Rd., the 850,000-square-foot centre is Amazon Canada’s first fulfillment warehouse equipped with high-tech Amazon robotics that make the company’s online delivery system much faster than the conventional shipment process. Amazon customers in the GTA will now be able to receive their orders much faster. The new Brampton centre will employ more than 700 people, with half of that already working.
Amazon Canada also made a big splash in Brampton’s technology community just prior to their official launch. On September 28,with the help of Mayor Linda Jeffrey and other city officials, Amazon made a surprise delivery to the Brampton Robotics Club.
Amazon’s Regional Operations Director, Glenn Sommerville, and employees from the new Brampton facility came to City Hall where theysurprised club members and their families with $10,000 worth of robotics equipment, technology and financial support. The gift will support the Brampton Robotics Club as it enters the robotics competition season.
Amazon is proud to give back to the communities where its associates live and work and is committed to supportingscience, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programming. Brampton Robotics Club is a nonprofit organization that promotes STEM education through robotics among grade 4 -12 students.
