BRAMPTON, ON (May 25, 2023) – The City of Brampton, in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) School of Medicine, hosted the medical technology business, academic and development community for the City’s first-ever MedTech Task Force inaugural meeting yesterday evening.
Hosted by Task Force Chair Deputy Mayor Harkirat Singh and Vice-Chair Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Medical School President and Vice-Chancellor Mohamed Lachemi, the goal of the MedTech Task Force is to advance and implement City priorities for medical innovation within the municipality, including Council’s priority for establishing post-secondary educational uses benefiting Brampton residents and businesses.
This Task Force will focus on:
- Finding new ways to attract investment to support science, research and commercialization
- Fostering the development of Brampton’s health technology ecosystem, and
- Supporting the development of highly skilled jobs and training opportunities for the medical industry.
With new and established companies calling Brampton home, and the recent announcement of Toronto Metropolitan University’s new school of medicine– the first new medical school in the GTA in 100 years – Brampton’s health and life sciences sector is on the cusp of an exciting phase of growth.
