Brampton Company Early Adopter of Virtual Reality Technology, Builds Business.

November 19, 2017

As technology disrupts business practices and demands new ways of approaching the market, it can provide new opportunities for business and customer expansion.

Winged Whale Media, a Brampton videography business, recently invested in 360-degree video capability to add a new dimension to their service offering. And, in partnership with the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority, they recently launched a new virtual reality travel experience at Montreal’s International Travel and Tourism show. A tour of Antigua & Barbuda was captured in 360 degree-video to give both consumers and travel agents a new way of experiencing the islands of Antigua & Barbuda.

Typically, tourism information is delivered through traditional media – brochures, images, 2D video – channels that make it difficult to highlight the unique features or full experience of a destination. Travel agents sometimes get in-person, on-location familiarization tours, but these are expensive.

Winged Whale media moved to fill this gap, pivoting their business to adopt technology and meet customer needs.

Winged Whale Media’s Antigua & Barbuda travel experience simulates an actual trip. It includes interviews with public officials, hoteliers, restauranteurs, excursion managers, and other tourism partners talking about the unique tourism features of the islands. The 360-degree visual experience gives the user the opportunity to experience hotel rooms, beaches, monuments, markets, and other important sites, as if they were actually there.

“We believe this product will revolutionize travel in several ways,” Jason Palmer, Director at Winged Whale Media says. “It’s a valuable educational tool for both employees and consumers. For travel industry insiders, it allows access to markets that they may not have had the opportunity to explore before. We merge employee training and consumer entertainment to create a truly unforgettable experience. It is a fantastic avenue to differentiate any destination from the crowded field within the travel industry.”
