Brampton’s Interactive Census Profile Provides Valuable Neighbourhood-level Statistics

August 14, 2019

Market research is an important information source for any small business. It provides detailed insights into competitors, latest market trends, consumer buying patterns, economic shifts, and demographics, and it helps business owners understand customers’ preferences.

To help Brampton business owners make informed decisions, the City of Brampton has launched the new Interactive Census Profile. The new Profile allows users to map out different social, economic and housing characteristics by postal code area, ward or census tract. The tool visually lays out neighbourhood population statistics (including size, age, gender, and family structure), population growth trends, ethnicity, home languages, household income, education, homeownership (renters vs. owners) and residential structure type.

Demographic mapping is most useful when the data displayed has a strong geographic dimension. It can be a visually compelling way to make decisions about and explain decisions regarding the design and targeting of the business, programs or project.

The Interactive Census Profile uses updated statistics from Census 2016. The official Census of Canada takes place every five years. Conducted by Statistics Canada, it provides a snapshot of our country and its people. The last official census was conducted on May 2016. This data helps to obtain a snapshot of Brampton and the thriving community it has become.
