As Ontario municipalities adapt to post-pandemic office space trends, Brampton is taking bold steps to stay ahead. In a recent Novae Res Urbis (NRU) feature, the City of Brampton was spotlighted for launching an expanded Office Development Incentive Program that waives development charges for all new office builds, including mixed-use developments that include an office component.

Approved by Council on April 9, 2025, this program is designed to stimulate job growth, attract investment, and respond to the city’s tight office market where vacancy rates are currently below 1%.

“This is how we build a complete city,” said Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor. “We’re growing fast residentially, and now we’re matching that with jobs and commercial growth.”

The initiative supports both large-scale developments and small business expansions. Whether it’s helping global firms like MDA Space build new campuses or enabling local entrepreneurs to add office mezzanines without steep fees, Brampton is positioning itself as one of Ontario’s most business-friendly municipalities.

According to Denise McClure, Director of Economic Development and International Relations at Invest Brampton, the updated program is “about making Brampton more competitive, more welcoming, and more future-ready.”

This incentive complements Brampton’s long-term strategy to foster innovation, create jobs, and accelerate economic resilience in key sectors like:

  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Health & Life Sciences
  • Innovation & Technology
  • Food & Beverage Processing
  • Professional Services
