BRAMPTON, ON (June 4, 2025) – The City of Brampton is reinforcing its commitment to cybersecurity excellence by renewing a five-year, $5 million agreement with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) to operate Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst (Catalyst) in downtown Brampton. 

Under the renewed partnership, the Catalyst will enhance cybersecurity awareness, offer specialized training and provide targeted support to Brampton-based businesses and community organizations. This initiative will nurture local cybersecurity talent, bolster entrepreneurial ventures and energize community cybersecurity initiatives.

Established as a cornerstone of the Brampton Innovation District, the Catalyst positions Brampton as a leading cybersecurity hub, especially within key sectors such as advanced manufacturing, smart infrastructure and automotive. 

Since 2020, the Catalyst has significantly impacted Canada’s cybersecurity landscape, achieving notable milestones: 

  • Supported 60 cybersecurity start-ups through the Catalyst Cyber Accelerator program. 
  • Provided experiential cybersecurity training via the Catalyst Cyber Range to over 50 organizations. 
  • Launched the RBC FinSec Incubator for early stage cyber and fintech companies. 
  • Introduced, supported and propelled more than 1,000 girls, women and non-binary individuals into cybersecurity careers. 
  • Attracted more than 200 attendees annually at the Catalyst Summit, hosted in Brampton. 
  • Showcased 195 Canadian cybersecurity businesses and counting, through the Buy Canadian Cyber directory, championing homegrown innovation and putting local solutions in the global spotlight. 

The renewal underscores the City’s dedication to safeguarding the integrity, security and resilience of its digital infrastructure.
