As Canada accelerates investment in sovereign capability, industrial resilience and secure supply chains, the City of Brampton is strengthening its position as a strategic hub for defence manufacturing and mission-critical technologies.

Last week, the Government of Ontario launched the Ontario Defence Industrial Strategy (ODIS), a new 10-year plan focused on strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity, securing supply chains and positioning the province to capture growing global defence investment opportunities.

With Canada committing an additional $81.8 billion in defence spending over the next five years and NATO allies expected to invest trillions into defence and security infrastructure over the coming decade, Brampton is well-positioned to support the next generation of defence innovation and industrial growth.

Home to two of Canada’s twelve defence OEMs, Brampton’s ecosystem spans aerospace, cybersecurity, automation and precision engineering, supported by globally competitive companies, strategic infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce.

Headquartered in Brampton and recognized as the 2026 Business of the Year by the Brampton Board of Trade, Roshel Smart Armored Vehicles has become one of Canada’s leading defence manufacturers and a global leader in smart armoured vehicle production.

From advanced vehicle engineering to integrated materials production, Roshel’s 140,000 sq. ft. Brampton facility supports more than 500 advanced manufacturing jobs and highlights Brampton’s growing role in powering end-to-end Canadian manufacturing and national defence capabilities.

That momentum was further reinforced earlier this year when Canada’s Minister of National Defence, the Honourable David J. McGuinty, visited Brampton and toured Roshel’s production facility, underscoring the city’s growing role within Canada’s evolving defence and industrial strategy.

“Roshel selected Brampton as the center of our operations because it gives us the scale and connectivity needed to deliver defence products on a global stage. The city offers access to a deep pool of technical talent, excellent transportation corridors, and close proximity to key suppliers and international trade routes. Brampton’s support for advanced manufacturing has further reinforced our decision to grow here. From this base, we are able to design, build, and export Canadian-made armored vehicles that meet the most demanding requirements of our customers worldwide.” –  Roman Shimonov, CEO, Roshel

Brampton’s Defence and Dual-use Sector on the Rise

Brampton-based companies are increasingly scaling operations and expanding into high-growth industries across defence, space, cybersecurity and dual-use technologies, driving investment, strengthening domestic industrial capacity and supporting global markets.

Reflecting that momentum, this week the City of Brampton’s Economic Development Office led a delegation of Brampton-based defence and dual-use companies to CANSEC 2026, Canada’s largest defence, security and emerging technology trade show, hosted by the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI)

The event brings together more than 300 leading global defence and security companies, alongside military leadership, procurement agencies and government officials from around the globe.

The Brampton delegation included Berger Group, Bempro Global Group Inc., Metex Heat Treating Ltd., Magnum Integrated Technologies and ELO.

Together, these companies represent a snapshot of Brampton’s industrial ecosystem and growing capabilities across defence manufacturing, aerospace, cybersecurity and mission-critical technologies.
