At a business breakfast today, more than 150 Brampton city leaders, staff and business representatives met to celebrate Brampton’s 2014 highlights from the newly released Economic Snapshot and reviewed Economic Development priorities.
Brampton’s Economic Development and Tourism Office hosted the B..Extraordinary Business Breakfast. City Councillor Jeff Bowman, Chair of the Economic Development Committee, announced the new document at the event, and challenged the audience to play their part in telling Brampton’s story of growth and economic strength.
“There are so many exciting things going on in Brampton from a business perspective,” says Councillor Bowman. Our city is right there among the best in Canada across a number of economic measures.”
The Economic Snapshot looks at Brampton’s place in a number of markets in the GTA and across Canada. Brampton consistently ranks high in overall numbers in economic activity, as illustrated through statistics and specific project highlights throughout the publication. Taken together, Brampton saw $2.2 billion of construction activity in 2014.
Some highlights for Brampton from the Economic Snapshot include:An increase of 52 per cent in new employment from 2013 to 2014Ranked the 7th largest construction market in CanadaRanked the 5th largest residential construction market in CanadaRanked 6th in Canada’s institutional construction market powered in part by projects for ErinoakKids and Peel Memorial54 business start-ups supported through the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre
“Brampton’s advantages of a young, diverse and skilled workforce, strong infrastructure and available employment land set the stage for even more growth moving forward,” says Councillor Bowman.
