Farmers’ markets are a great success story for Brampton and Ontario, with strong consumer and vendor support as evidenced by the growth in attendance and number of markets. Success is built upon many factors, including a desire to return to locally produced products, a strong belief in the integrity of shopping in the community and an important source of social engagement.
The City of Brampton’s downtown Farmers’ Market is more than 100 years old and in its 30th year of operation under the management of the City. It is an integral part of the revitalization of downtown Brampton and has become a successful city-wide and regional event.
The Farmers’ Market attracts more than 3,000 visitors every Saturday morning from mid-June to October, purchasing fresh, locally grown produce and baked goods from more than 50 vendors. In 2015 a second Brampton Farmers’ market was opened in Mount Pleasant, running from August to September.
The office of the Central Area is currently undertaking a study to determine the feasibility of a year-round indoor market in the downtown or Central Area.
