Olymel recently completed an investment of more than $30 million to redevelop an poultry processing plant in Brampton and acquire a second plant.
The acquisition of the second plant on Westwyn Court made room for a redevelopment of the existing Orenda Road location, which had reached full production capacity.
The acquisition of the Westwyn Court location represents an addition of more than 50,000 square feet of space at both plants, and makes additional space available for future developments.
The investment increases the company’s production capacity, particularly in the breaded poultry products segment, in order to capitalize on business opportunities in the hotel, restaurant and institution market and in the retail distribution sector.
Currently, Olymel’s Orenda plant in Brampton specializes in processing poultry products and employs nearly 320 people on multiple shifts, seven days a week. The Westwyn Court plant now employs 315 people over three work shifts, operating five days a week. The new plant will specialize in deboning, which was previously done at the Orenda location.
The redevelopment and investment in these two Brampton Olymel plants will create more than 100 new jobs.
Olymel produces, processes and distributes pork and poultry meats. The company employs over 11,000 people and has production and processing facilities in Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan. Its annual sales are on the order of $3.2 billion.
