BRAMPTON, ON (September 4, 2024) – For the fourth consecutive year, the City of Brampton has been ranked as one of Canada’s top 20 locations to invest by Site Selection Magazine. Competing on an international stage, Brampton maintains its place on the list.
The City of Brampton’s Economic Development Office is among only 70 economic development organizations worldwide to be recognized as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO). This designation highlights the professional excellence of the office’s dedicated team, which works tirelessly to create favourable conditions for attracting and supporting businesses.
Brampton’s central location in Canada’s Innovation Corridor and talented workforce are key components in attracting investment, jobs and new businesses to the city. Brampton continues to focus its economic development efforts on the City’s key sectors: innovation and technology, advanced manufacturing, food and beverage processing and health and life sciences. Some of the most recent investments include:
- Stellantis has opened a new $25 million, 500,000 sq ft distribution hub serving 300 dealers and their customers in Eastern Canada.
- Lululemon, a popular athleisure clothing company, announced it is building its largest distribution facility in North America, right here in Brampton. The facility will bring 1,500 jobs to the city.
- Axium Packaging Inc. is investing over $80 million for a new plastics manufacturing facility creating 250 new jobs.
- Handi Foods has invested $25 million into their first Brampton manufacturing facility that will employ 175 people. They are one of North America’s largest producers of private label pita chips.
- Alectra Utilities has opened a new 400-employee LEED-certified Operations Centre.
This award builds on Brampton’s existing reputation as an investment-friendly location, as exemplified by the various financial incentives offered to employers and developers through the City’s recently approved Development Charges (DC) bylaw and the city-wide Community Improvement Plan (CIP). Each incentive targets office employment and complementary uses within key sectors, such as health and life sciences, innovation and technology and advanced manufacturing.
The CIP offers a 10-year Tax Increment Equivalent Grant (TIEG) to offset property taxes for office developments. In addition, the DC bylaw provides an exemption from the City’s portion of the DCs for any office uses that are either freestanding or part of a mixed-use development.
