BSI Group Canada Inc., a division of the world’s first National Standards Body and a founding member of the International Organization of Standardization (ISO), announced that Zochem Inc., a Brampton Business Milestone company, has been awarded the 2015 BSI Canada Award of Excellence for Quality Management Systems.
The Brampton-based company is the largest producer of high quality zinc oxide in North America. It has held ISO 9001 certification since 1997 and has had an integrated ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 system in place since 2004.
Members of the BSI Canada team presented Zochem representatives with the award in June 2016 ceremony in Brampton.
“Zochem has very effective management review and internal communications practices and continuous improvement processes,” said Anne-Marie Pizzitelli, Head of Communications for BSI Canada. “The company consistently demonstrates continuous improvement of systems with stretch targets being achieved, increased efficiencies and safety initiatives. Zochem is constantly improving safe working conditions for employees.”
Zochem has reduced its OSHA recordable incident rate from 9.4 per cent in 2011 to zero ever since 2013.
“The organization has a very strong non-conformance, corrective and preventive action system and integrated internal audit process in place, which is fully embraced by all employees, contributing to the effectiveness of overall management system,” said Khalid Abdullah, IMS Manager at Zochem. “Our business demonstrates a culture of excellence and superior performance.”
BSI Canada created the Award of Excellence in 2011 to recognize customers who excel in the implementation of international business standards. This year’s Award of Excellence judging panel consisted of a multi-disciplinary team at BSI Canada which interviewed clients, auditors, senior account managers, and other client facing personnel.
Last year’s winners were ABB Inc. Power & Industrial Systems(single site), a global leader in power and automation technologies, and Schneider Electric (multi-site), a design, repair and service company.
