Brampton Economic Development and Tourism Office honoured at annual EDCO Awards

​On Thursday, February 4, the City of Brampton was recognized with two awards and one honourable mention at the Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO) President’s Dinner at the Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre in Toronto.
The EDCO Awards of Excellence is a well-established program available to communities to have their economic development initiatives judged by industry leaders against their peers in communities of similar size. Award winners are viewed as leaders in economic development.

The Brampton Economic Development and Tourism Office proudly accepted awards for its Brampton Economic Development Map and its Four Year International Business Development and Marketing Plan 2015-2018.

The Map won under the category of Promotional Awards: Publication (print or electronic), single publication – 4 or more pages – greater than $600,000.The Map provides a view of the City of Brampton through a holistic, comprehensive, graphic piece that shows the geography of the city, highlighting employment lands, infrastructure and amenities which are relevant to investors. This publication is a key tool used by Economic Development and Tourism Office staff during face-to-face meetings with investors, realtors, senior business executives, ICI industry professionals and entrepreneurs to effectively locate opportunities and draw attention to key areas of the city.

The Four Year International Business Development and Marketing Plan won under the category of Physical Infrastructure and Redevelopment Initiatives, Strategic Plans and Initiatives. Themission statement of the program/plan is to generate awareness locally, domestically and internationally of Brampton’s competitive advantages as a choice North American business location, in order to support and encourage local economic growth and nurture a global business environment. The increasing integration and interdependence of domestic and international markets is becoming a standard part of the business ecosystem, and when tackled head on, presents growth opportunities.

The City also gained an honourable mention for itsBrampton Entrepreneur Centre Youth Entrepreneurship Video.During the summer of 2015 the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre team worked with talented young clientsCamila Garcia and Pedro Miguez of Rebel Creative to create a youth entrepreneurship promotional video. The video was featured in local movie theatres during December and was part of a YouTube campaign that resulted in over 190,000 impressions and 17,000 views.The goal of the video was to create pride in Brampton’s youth, while creating a call to action in the City – Young entrepreneurs are the doers that keep Brampton moving!

EDCO award winners are viewed as leaders in economic development, and are eligible to receive the Lieutenant-Governors’ Best of Show Award for outstanding effort in economic development. The Brampton Economic Development Map was one of four finalists for the Lieutenant-Governors’ Best of Show Award.
