Following the launch of the Mayor’s Tariff Task Force in April, the City of Brampton’s Invest Brampton – Economic Development Office recently hosted the second Mayor’s Tariff Task Force meeting on December 25, 2025, bringing together federal, municipal and industry leaders to further strengthen supports for local businesses navigating an evolving global trade landscape.

This meeting builds on the inaugural Mayor’s Tariff Task Force, launched in April to address trade and tariff impacts and strengthen Brampton’s economic resilience.

Bringing Cross-Sector Leaders Together

The roundtable convened representatives from key sectors that power Brampton’s economy, including:

  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Innovation and technology
  • Food and beverage processing
  • Logistics

Participants included industry and trade leaders from MDA Space, Unifor, Canon Canada, ALMAG Aluminum, Daybar Industries Limited, Peel Plastic Products Ltd., Sofina Foods Canada, Zochem LLC, Adamas International, SCOOTY, DCM, Prologis, BHive, the Brampton Board of Trade, TD Commercial Banking, Export Development Canada | Exportation et développement Canada, and the Trade Commissioner Service | Service des délégués commerciaux.

Federal and Municipal Leadership on Trade

Mayor Patrick Brown was joined by the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, P.C., M.P., Minister of International Trade, Economic Development Chair Regional Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor, Vice-Chair Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, and senior members of the City’s Economic Development team.

During the discussion, the Minister outlined opportunities for Canadian businesses to expand exports into new markets, while also spotlighting Brampton’s competitive strengths in sectors such as space and defence, areas expected to be key drivers of economic growth in the years ahead.

Advancing the Tariff Action Plan

This meeting builds on the foundations established in the Task Force’s inaugural session in April and supports the continued implementation of Brampton’s award-winning Tariff Action Plan.

The session focused on strengthening advocacy, expanding supports, and ensuring that local businesses are equipped to successfully navigate ongoing trade disruptions and prepare for upcoming CUSMA negotiations in 2026.
